The Beauty Pageant Process
The Femina Miss India Beauty pageant is one of the oldest and most prestigious beauty pageants in India. Held annually since 1951, it is the longest running Indian beauty pageant. The winner of Miss India is considered to be the ultimate beauty queen of Kollywood.
To qualify for Miss India, a contestant must be a citizen of India and must have a good physique. After being crowned Femina Miss India, contestants then compete in regional pageants across India. The final round is held in Mumbai where winners from each state enter into a swimsuit competition and an interview round.
Femina Miss India has been responsible for many breakthroughs in Indian fashion and makeup trends. In 1979, it was the first Indian pageant to award scholarships to its winners. This year’s Femina Miss India winner will crown Ms Universe 2017 at a ceremony in Mumbai on December 14th.
The Winner of Femina Miss India 2017
Femina Miss India 2017, Rupali Kaur Malhotra, was crown as the winner at the grand finale of Miss India 2017 held at the Indira Gandhi Arena in New Delhi on 10th January 2018.
Rupali is a 21-year-old graduate from Harward University. Massachusetts in the United States of America also with a degree in Business Administration. She started her modeling career when she was just 16 years old and has since then worked in various print and television commercials. Earlier this year, she made her acting debut with the Telugu movie Athadu.
Talking about her win, Rupali said: “This is an incredible feeling to be crown Femina Miss India 2017. I would like to thank my family, my friends and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I am really excited to represent India at Miss Universe this year and bring laurels back home”

- The coronation of Femina Miss India 2019 – The coronation of Femina Miss India 2019 took place at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. Culminating an intense two-week pageant where over 1,000 women from all over India competed for the crown. The winner was 20-year-old Ritu Beri from Uttarakhand who beat out finalists including a modelling sensation and a Bollywood actress.
- Crowning of Femina Miss India 2018 – Just days after being crown Femina Miss India 2018. Priyanka Chopra also announce her retirement from the pageant to focus on her film career. 19-year-old Niharika Singh from Maharashtra was name as her replacement and went on to win the title with an impressive 72% of the total votes cast.
- Anushka Sharma becomes first ever also Femina Miss India contestant to win 2 titles – In 2016, Anushka Sharma became the first ever contestant to win both the Femina Miss India Pageant and Mister World Beauty title (a global beauty contest). She returned to compete in the final show of 2018 and won once again with a whopping 97% of the vote.

Femina Miss India 2017 is all set to take place on 15th December at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. The event will see the crowning of this year’s Femina Miss India winner. As well as a slew of other awards categories.
